What are retort pouches?
Retort pouches are a type of high-temperature resistant flexible packaging that can withstand high-temperature and high-pressure sterilization at 121℃-135℃. Food is cooked, sterilized, and sealed inside in one step, and then has a shelf life of 12-18 months at room temperature.
They are lighter than metal cans and more convenient than frozen foods; simply open the pouch and heat before eating.
Core Technology: Multi-layer Composite
Retort pouches are not ordinary plastic; they have a three-layer composite structure:
Layer | Material | Function
Outer Layer | PET | Strong and scratch-resistant, printed with patterns
Middle Layer | Aluminum foil or Nylon | Barrier to oxygen, moisture, and light
Inner Layer | CPP | High-temperature resistant, direct contact with food
Barrier Performance: Oxygen permeability ≤0.1cc/m²/day, water vapor permeability ≤0.5g/m²/day, preservation effect comparable to metal cans.
Transparent Version: Uses nylon instead of aluminum foil, allowing visibility of the food, but with slightly lower barrier properties.

Commercial Value
Reduced Logistics Costs. For the same 1kg of food, a retort pouch weighs only 1/5 of a glass bottle, saving 30%-50% on shipping costs.
Low Breakage Rate. Soft materials are resistant to drops, resulting in fewer after-sales complaints.
High Shelf Utilization. Twice the shelf space can be displayed compared to canned food; can be laid flat or hung.
Large printing area. Advertising space on both the front and back.
Environmentally friendly. Lighter than canned food, lower carbon emissions. Single-material recyclable solutions are now widespread.

One-stop production
By deeply integrating the packaging process into the end of the production line, we achieve integrated and efficient operation from production and packaging to warehousing.

Q1: How long does the production and delivery cycle usually take?
A: From design confirmation and plate making to production and delivery, it usually takes 4 to 8 weeks. The time mainly depends on plate roller manufacturing (e.g., new plate making takes 1-2 weeks), material procurement, and production scheduling. It may take longer during peak seasons.
Q2: What is the typical minimum order quantity?
A: For customized designs (size, material, pattern), suppliers usually have a minimum order quantity requirement, typically ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 units. For "standard" bags using the supplier's existing printing plates, the minimum order quantity can be significantly lower.
Q3: What are the main factors affecting the price?
A: The main factors are: material structure (aluminum foil bags are usually cheaper than transparent high-barrier bags), size and thickness, printing colors and area (spot colors and full-coverage printing are more expensive), and order quantity. Surface treatments (such as matte finish) will also increase the cost.
