Q1: What are the main types of heat shrink film? How should I choose?
A: They are mainly divided into the following categories, choose according to your needs:
POF (Environmentally friendly polyolefin heat shrink film): The most commonly used. Advantages: environmentally friendly and non-toxic, soft and tough, high shrinkage rate, and not easily brittle at low temperatures. Suitable for: most general packaging of food, daily chemicals, toys, books, etc.
PVC (Polyvinyl chloride heat shrink film): Advantages: high hardness, low cost, and good shrinkage effect. Disadvantages: poor environmental performance (produces black smoke and odor when burned), and may become brittle at low temperatures. Suitable for: industrial products and cards that do not require high environmental protection.
PET (Polyester heat shrink film): Advantages: extremely high strength, precise shrinkage rate, excellent printing effect, and high transparency. Suitable for: high-end electronic products, cosmetics, software boxes, and other products requiring high strength and high display quality.
OPS (Polystyrene heat shrink film): Advantages: high transparency, high gloss, good stiffness, and environmentally friendly and recyclable. Disadvantages: relatively brittle. Suitable for: gifts, toys, stationery, CDs, and other products requiring high display quality.
PE (Polyethylene heat shrink film): Advantages: good toughness, tear resistance, and commonly used for large-format packaging. Suitable for: industrial pallet wrapping and collective packaging of large items.
Q2: Do heat shrink films have different thicknesses? How to choose?
A: Yes, the common thickness is measured in "mils" (1 mil = 0.01 mm). It usually ranges from 8 mils (0.08mm) to 19 mils (0.19mm).
Thin (e.g., 8-12 mils): Suitable for lightweight, regular-shaped small goods, and lower cost.
Regular (e.g., 15 mils): The most commonly used, balancing strength, shrinkage effect, and cost.
Thick (e.g., 19 mils and above): Suitable for heavy goods with sharp edges, providing stronger protection.
